Medic 1
Ron Jorgensen
As the 1978 Vic Steffen Award (SD EMT of the Year) winner, Ron
has worked at Madison Community
Hospital since 1974 and is currently the
Hospital’s Director of Purchasing and Medical Services.
In the 25
plus years Ron has been associated with Emergency Medical Services
he has progressed from an EMT-B
provider to becoming an Nationally Certified
Instructor for EMS. He is
currently licensed as an EMT-SS
and is certified in BTLS, and ACLS. Additionally,
he serves the citizens of South Dakota on the State Test
Team and as an
Instructor for the Department of Health.
He has twice been a member of the Governor’s 911
Task Force and in 1999
Governor Janklow proclaimed April 9th as Ron Jorgensen Day throughout
the State
of South Dakota to honor him for the work he has done for EMS on the
local level and for South Dakotans
throughout the state.
In addition to Emergency Medical Services Ron has shown his commitment to
the people
of Lake County by serving as a Lake County Commissioner since 1989
and has also been a recipient of a project
CARE Award for addressing the needs
of elderly people at risk. SD EMT
#0451 is married to SD EMT # 1553,
they have five children, eight grandchildren,
one grandchild on the way, and one dog, Dora.

car shows, gardening, and computers.

Medic 2 Diane Gross
Dianne's
interest in the medical field developed at an early age. When she was 3
years old, her family moved to
Marion, South Dakota, where her father started a
mortuary business, which also included the community ambulance
service.
While growing up, she helped her father in various ways in his profession.
Her duties included, at times,
answering his emergency phone calls,
assisting him on some calls and helping him to maintain his equipment and
business place. She saw her father help and care for people in many
difficult situations, which through the years
increased her interest in
emergency care. As a senior in high school, she took a emergency first
aide course. In
1977, after both her children had started school, she
decided to pursue her interest in the emergency care of people.
She was
living in Beresford, South Dakota at this time. After completing a
Basic Emergency Medical Technicians
course, she became a member of the Beresford
volunteer Ambulance Service. In 1978, she completed a additional
81 hour
E.M.T. course and continued to work on the Beresford service for 3 years.
Dianne started working with
Madison Medical Services in May 1980, when her
family moved to Madison, South Dakota. In 1987, Dianne became
a licensed
Emergency Medical Technician Special Skills and is certified in Advanced
Cardiac Life Support. She is a
member of the South Dakota E.M.T.
Association, the South Dakota E.M.S. Instructor/Coordinators, and the South
Dakota Test Team. Dianne is also employed at the Bethel Assisted Living
Suites as a residential assistant and medication
aide. She is married to
Harley and has 2 children - Melissa and Christopher, 1 son-in-law Michael, 1
daughter-in-law
Kathy, 3 grandchildren - twins-5 years old- Jonathan and Matthew
and Mikayla - 2 years old and 1 cat - Misty Rainbow.
Dianne's favorite
pastime is being with her children and grandchildren. She also
enjoys collecting precious moments
figurines and gardening.

Medic 3 Cindy Jacobs
Cindy became an EMT-B in 1981.
She began work with the Madison Ambulance in 1982.
She completed Special
Skills training in 1986.
In 1996, she became certified as an EMT-Paramedic. In 2005 she
completed the PHTLS course.
She has two sons and
two daughter-in-laws. She has recently moved into a new home.

4 Barb Jorgensen ![]()
Barb
is married to Medic 1, Ron. Barb and Ron have five children and eight
grandchildren. Barb
has been an EMT-B
since 1976 and a registered EMT-P since 1996. Her present
employment is with the the South Dakota Department of
Safety as an EMS trainer. Her teaching credentials in EMS are
numerous. PHTLS and GEMS are her most recent
additions to her credentials.In 1979 she won the Vic Steffen award (presently the SD EMT of the Year).
In 1990,
she was honored as a South Dakota State outstanding employee. She was
able to attend the National EMT Conference
in Las Vegas in 2003 and says hearing
Dr. Carmona, the U.S. Surgeon General, was a very memorable event.
Barb enjoys spending time with her grandchildren and shopping in her rare
spare time.

Medic 5
Ted Ellingson 
Ted is one of the original seven members of the Madison Medical
Service. He became an EMT with number 0229
in 1972. In 1992, he became an EMT-I.
He
completed the Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS) course in 1996 and
the PHTLS course in 2005. He is also a CPR-BLS instructor. Since its founding
in 1975, Ted has been a continuous
member in
the South Dakota Emergency Medical Technician's Association . He has served as the District One SDEMTA treasurer for 16
years, State SDEMTA Vice-President in 1993, District One's Vice-President and is
presently the State Association treasurer. He has also worked on ambulance
services in Milbank, Freeman, and Howard. He is presently
employed full time with the Lake County Sheriff's
Office and manages a 24 unit apartment building. His
hobbies include
doing anything on the computer, fishing and sailing.

Medic 6
Dee Balogh 
Dee (aka Medic 6) became an EMT #1967 in 1976. In 1992, she upgraded her skills to EMT-I . She has served with the Madison Emergency Medical crew since 1985 and is currently working with Avera Health systems. Dee is certified in BTLS, EVOC, Neonatal Advanced Life Support and is a CPR-BLS instructor. She is also a member in the South Dakota Emergency Medical Technician's Association. Springfield, Missouri was the site of training that prepared her to become a member of the Lake County Critical Incident Stress Debriefing team. In the past she was one of the Lake County Shelter Systems Officers and part of the Emergency Management team.
One of her hobbies is bowling, of which she has been very active in promoting. In 1985, Dee was inducted into the Madison Bowling Hall of Fame & in 1999 she was given the honor of being inducted into the South Dakota State Bowling Hall of Fame.
Dee and her husband, Steve, reside on an acreage NW of Madison. Stormy Acres Quarter Horses is home to 12 registered quarter horses and one Chow Chow dog. As you could guess, horseback riding is another hobby! She has been treasurer of the Lake County Boots & Saddle Club. A favorite pastime is spending time with their three children, Son-in-Law, Daughter-in-Law and four grandchildren (soon to be 5).
Dee has always had a love of Emergency care, often going with her Father when the Fire Chief's station wagon served as the ambulance for her home town and the only paging system was the town's fire whistle!

Medic 7
Peggy Hoeke 
Peggy has been employed with the Madison Community Hospital since 1990. She became a basic EMT in 1993 and began working for Madison Medical Services then. She became a paramedic in 2000. Peggy is certified in BTLS, Pediatric BTLS, NALS, PALS, and ACLS. Peggy has 3 children, 4 stepchildren and 2 grandchildren. Peggy is married to Medic 10 and they like to spend free time gardening, fishing and spending time with family.

Medic 10 Wayne
Hoeke
Wayne first became an EMT in 1986 while he was the Fire Chief of the Colman Fire Department. Since then he has been active with emergency services in Colman, Flandreau and Madison. He has been a member of the Lake County Search and Rescue for the past 2 1/2 years and the Madison Medical Services since 1999. T&R Electric in Colman is where Wayne has been employed for the past 26 years and he's presently a foreman and Safety Director for the company. Medic 10 has four children, two boys and two girls. The oldest, Jason, is a manager at a major appliance store in Des Moines, IA. Stephanie is a sophomore at Madison High School, Courtney is in the 7th grade at Madison Middle School and Wesley is in the 6th grade at Colman/Egan Elementary. Hobbies for Wayne include fishing, fishing and fishing! His favorite type of fishing is ice fishing.

Medic 11 Jerry Seidel
Jerry first became involved in emergency services when asked to join the Bison Volunteer Fire Department in 1984. He took the EMT-B course, becoming South Dakota EMT #9006, and joined the Bison Ambulance Service in 1987. He moved to Madison in July, 2000 where he immediately joined the Lake County Search And Rescue. In the fall of 2001, he was asked to join the Madison Ambulance Service. Jerry is presently employed full time with Lake County. He enjoys camping, hunting and fishing during his free time but also enjoys doing volunteer work in the community in which he lives. His son, Mitch, is in the Navy and is ported out of Gaeta, Italy.
